Broke is an enchanting village in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, in Singleton Shire. Located 157 kms to the north of Sydney on the original early colonial road from Sydney to Singleton, 24 kms north, Broke is nestled in the foothills of the Broken Back Range. Seen as the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley, Broke is the idyllic base for a weekend getaway, for couples, friends or business bonding sessions.
Situated adjacent to Wollombi Brook, Broke has a rich heritage, with global recognition of the significance of nearby iconic places including; UNESCO World Heritage wilderness Yengo National Park and ancient Aboriginal Cultural sites.

Tourist Drive 33 is the scenic gateway to the spectacular Hunter Valley stretching from the Peats Ridge exit on the M1 near Sydney, to Branxton in the heart of wine country along the historic Great North Road.

UNESCO World Heritage wilderness Yengo National Park

Situated just over an hours drive from Broke, this World Heritage-listed wilderness is part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
Yengo has spectacular views, remote wilderness and unique Aboriginal cultural heritage. There’s an abundance of Aboriginal sacred sites and rock engravings to discover.
Finchley Lookout
Look out across the remote wilderness from Finchley lookout, take in the spectacular views and perhaps enjoy a picnic. Marvel at the majestic Mount Yengo standing tall in the distance and read about the rich Aboriginal heritage in the park and surrounding area.

Finchley cultural walk
A short 1km return walk, The Finchley Cultural Walk displays an astonishing wealth of ancient Aboriginal rock art, as well as great insights into Aboriginal history. This 15-45 min trail is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. The trail is clearly sign posted, has gentle hills, no steps and requires no bush walking experience.

Held on the First Sunday of the month in McNamara Park, this community market has a local feel to it. On offer is everything from local gourmet produce, back-of-ute veggies, toys, handmade gifts, collectables and pre-loved trinkets.

SMOKE IN BROKE
Held in McNamara Park, June sees the Smoke in Broke, a weekend of low and slow barbecue, street food, boutique wine, craft beer, and market stalls. Open to the public for a small fee, BBQ cooking demonstrations, a Butcher’s showcase, Music, Local Craft Beer and the Local Boutique Wines on Offer.

Held in April, As well as great Italian foods and wines available to enjoy, you can enjoy workshops, classes & demonstrations, festivities & fun hosted throughout Broke Fordwich with over 10 venues participating.
Broke Village Fair and Vintage Car Display – September
McNamara Park showcases hundreds of vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, trucks and tractors and an amazing array of vintage farm machinery. Enjoy over 60 market stalls, food trucks, children’s activities and rides, whip cracking, live music, bush poetry, Tug-o-War, rocker car racing and more.

CRUSH PARTY
An Annual event the Crush Party is held during February and March while the Hunter Valley harvest is in full swing. Held over two days, you have an opportunity to join the life of a winemaker. Experience grape picking, sorting and stomping, followed by a hearty banquet lunch in the vineyard, live music as well as all your Oakvale favourites by the glass.
